Shien was awarded the NTU Research Scholarship to pursue her PhD in science education at National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University Singapore. She earned her Master of Arts (MA) in English Studies from National University of Singapore (NUS) and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from NIE. A teacher at heart, she has taught Chemistry at K12 level, journeyed with working adult learners in domains of applied linguistics and facilitated medical learning through team-based learning pedagogy.
A researcher in practice, she takes a multimodal approach to understand the work of educators. She has worked on several research projects within schools and medical teaching community settings to examine how working professionals enact policies in the workplace. She has conducted workshops for engaging adult learners in reflection on practice through participation in communities of practice. Building productive research and professional bridges with adult learners and workplace organizations is going to be her next mission as research scientist at CRADLE@NTU.
