The Centre for Research and Development in Learning at Nanyang Technological University inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) through the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL).
WDA, which was reconstituted into Workforce Singapore (WSG), is a statutory board under the Ministry of Manpower that oversees programmes for the local workforce’s continuous professional development. It focuses on upgrading the employability of Singaporeans to help them thrive in a global, competitive working environment.
CRADLE@NTU welcomes the 3-year collaboration with IAL, which intends to be Singapore’s national centre of excellence in learning, practice, and research for Continuing Education and Training (CET). The inter-organisation MOU would allow joint research efforts on education areas such as pedagogy for adult learners, practice of teaching and educating adults, continuing education and training, and technology enabled learning for formal, non-formal, and informal learning environments.
CRADLE@NTU and IAL would exchange knowledge and expertise to deepen understanding on the professional demands of adult educators and learners, and develop frameworks to enhance the standards of Singapore’s adult education courses. Both organisations would also co-develop learning innovations as supported by empirical data.
The MOU was signed by CRADLE@NTU Deputy Director and Associate Professor Tan Seng Chee and IAL Head of Centre for Work and Learning Dr Helen Bound in April 2016.
